Crane Appointed Person (AP) - section 1

Crane Appointed Person (AP)

The AP is a senior role responsible for overall lift planning and management, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Training: Must hold a recognised lifting operations qualification (e.g., CPCS Appointed Person) with in-depth knowledge of risk assessments and safety protocols.
  • Experience: Typically requires several years of experience in crane operations, lift planning, and hazard management.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting risk assessments and developing safe lift methods.
  • Preparing and approving compliant lift plans.
  • Evaluating site conditions (ground, weather, equipment limits).
  • Coordinating with all personnel for safe execution.
  • Ensuring all staff are qualified and communication is clear.
  • Overseeing equipment maintenance and certification.
Lift Supervisor - section 2

Lift Supervisor

The Lift Supervisor is responsible for the safe on-site execution of lifting operations and ensuring personnel follow procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Training: Requires relevant qualifications (e.g., CPCS Lift Supervisor, CITB Site Safety Plus, NPORS Lift Supervisor) and a strong understanding of crane operations and equipment.
  • Experience: Practical experience in managing lifting operations, with a focus on safety and team coordination, is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervising on-site lifting, adhering to the Crane Appointed Person's plan.
  • Verifying all workers are trained and qualified.
  • Communicating with the crane operator and other personnel for safe execution.
  • Monitoring ground conditions and crane positioning.
  • Ensuring safety measures like exclusion zones and PPE are in place.
  • Managing any necessary changes to the lift plan or operations.
Slinger/Signaller - section 3

Slinger/Signaller

The Slinger/Signaller is responsible for safely attaching and securing loads, and guiding the crane operator with signals.

Qualifications:

  • Training: Must hold a recognised qualification (e.g., CPCS Slinger/Signaller/NPORS Slinger Signaller) demonstrating knowledge of slinging/rigging and signaling.
  • Experience: Hands-on experience with lifting equipment and familiarity with specific crane and load types.

Responsibilities:

  • Selecting and using correct rigging equipment.
  • Securely attaching loads to the crane.
  • Communicating with the crane operator via hand signals or radio.
  • Monitoring load stability and positioning throughout the lift.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety protocols, including proper load securing.
